Day 2 Results

Last night was our second round of performances and not only were we sold out but the plays were incredible!

Our first session opened with four plays: after a devastating tornado a first time EMT approaches a man who does not wish to be saved in Elin Hampton’s F4; in a hilarious encounter between two strangers we learn why they’re in a movie theater at 11:45am on Thanksgiving in Amanda Keating’s this movie; while driving to see family a couple discusses the complexities of exploring BDSM in an interracial relationship in Jahna Ferron-Smith’s SIR.; and as a couple tells the story of how they met they also realize just how much they don’t know about each other in Gillian Beth Durkee’s Romance at the Shoe Factory. After a quick break we were graced with four more plays: a woman interviews for an exclusive secret club for the rich in Rendah Heywood’s Grievance Club; just before the end of a Jewish summer camp the friendship between two girls changes forever in Shara Feit’s Young Women of Valor; as the Missouri River is about to flood a small town once again a family confronts both their individual and collective histories in Simon de Carvalho’s The Great Parade of Upper Kennington; and chaos ensues just as a college student needs to take his online midterm in Julia Doolittle’s Associates in Communications

The judges tasked with the difficult choice of choosing only a few of these plays to advance to the Saturday finals were Page 73 Productions’ Artistic Director Michael Walkup, Samuel French published playwright Lauren Yee, and Primary Stage’s Artistic Director Andrew Leynse. After a considerable discussion and thought, the three short plays will move on to the Saturday Finals.
